For those of you running a 2.4.x kernel, if you also run Apache, try this:

  1. Access some local pages via Apache:
  2. Then, make the following changes to your httpd.conf file
  3. restart Apache
  4. Create rc.khttpd as such:
  5. The above script I call rc.khttpd and I call it from rc.local. You may or may not need/want to add to the list of dynamic pages that should be passed to Apache. Just follow the example above.
  6. Then access the same web pages you did earlier. You should see a fairly dramatic increase in speed. At least, on my Inspiron 7K w/ 128Mb RAM I did.
