When choosing a tape strategy for implementing your backup solution, don't base your desision soley on the cost of the medium. I've found that by studying the write/read errors on new tapes in new drives backing up 10Gb of data that:
- 8mm tape = 10x more reliable than 4mm
- 4mm tape = 10x more reliable than DLT
- DLT tape = 10x more reliable than QIC
